How PE Sockets work
The PE Sockets incorporate the Qualcom-Atheros 6400 Powerline chipset (which is compatible with HomePlug Alliance AV standard) along with other complementary technologies to create a high speed secure network by utilising the existing mains cables available throughout the building.
There is no need to install additional cables or relying in WiFi in order to have a high speed, reliable network. By simply replacing the existing power sockets with the PE Sockets (a minimum of 2 PE Sockets are required) network connectivity can be available everywhere in the building.
Creating a Powerline network with the PE Sockets is very easy.
The PE Sockets are designed to automatically connect together to form a single meshed network secured with 128bit AES encryption. Each PE Socket comes with 4 Ethernet ports and, once installed, all the Ethernet ports on each PE Socket are automatically linked together.

- Connect a laptop, PC, printer, VoIP handset or game console using a CAT5 cable to any Ethernet port on one of the PE Sockets.
- Connect the other Ethernet devices to the other PE Sockets using CAT5 cables.
- To share Internet access among all these devices, simply connect the Internet router to any one of the PE Sockets using a CAT5 cable.
Whenever there is an active Ethernet connection, the Network Activity light on that PE Socket will light up, the PE Socket will wake up (power light goes green) and then connect to other active PE Sockets (the PLC Connection light will show its status).
That simple! Now enjoy a fast secure network with Internet connectivity everywhere a PE Socket has been installed.
The four Ethernet ports in the PE Socket are integrated as a managed switch which eliminates the need for adding additional network switches and allow the network to provide QoS and tagged VLANS.
The PE Socket has two push buttons and three LED lights directly underneath the 4 switched Ethernet ports. The function of each is described in the table below.

Supported Standards
- Ethernet across a meshed network at up to 200Mbps (gross)
- Range up to 300m between Power Ethernet sockets over the mains cables
- Connect the broadband router to share Internet access
- Fast enough to stream High Definition (HD) video
- Utilises the Atheros INT6400 chipset which is compatible with HomePlug Alliance AV standard
- Supports Windows, Mac, Linux and all operating systems with a Ethernet port (RJ45)
- Built in managed switch supports tagged VLANS, TOS Bits and Quality of Service (QoS)
- Built-in AES 128 bit security
- Support for TV over IP (IPTV), Voice Over IP (VoIP) and Ethernet CCTV cameras
- Fits a standard UK two-gang 35 mm deep metal back box
- And of course power
Two or more Power Ethernet sockets (or HomePlug AV compatible devices) are required to create a network.
The power outlets must be electrically connected sharing the same power rail in order for Powerline devices to provide a network connection between them.
