CEDIA ACCREDITED POWER ETHERNET TRAINING ANNOUNCED

Article posted on InsideCI on Thursday, 25th October 2012 by Steve May

Growing interest in AV-centric networking has led CEDIA to accredit a new training workshop from Powerline networking manufacturer Power Ethernet. The workshop will provide attendees with the skill set to specify Powerline Communication (PLC) data networks and integrate them effectively within existing audio-visual and home automation systems. As an official CEDIA CEU training partner, the Power Ethernet course will enable CEDIA members to gain Continuing Education Units that will count towards their personal CEDIA certification.

Advocate Kris Hogg, MD of Konnectiv Technology describes powerline as a "get out of jail free card" for projects where running new cabling is cost prohibitive. "I've not come across a building that doesn't have electrical cabling and power points," he says. "It may not be top of the list for AV installs but developments like Power Ethernet's integrated power and data socket (pictured above) have made it a very valuable tool for integrators. The addition of a small four port switch and a filtered power outlet makes it a really interesting option for use behind TV's where cabling is limited."

The Powerline course will cover a range of applications including home cinema, home automation, multi-room audio, digital signage and CCTV It'll combine theory about the base HomePlug and IEE1902 network standards, with practical demonstrations, concluding with a Q&A session and exam.

Power Ethernet's marketing director James Gardiner says: "We're excited to be working with CEDIA to help increase the networking knowledge and skills within the CEDIA member base. We've turned Powerline into an interesting proposition for installers - the technology is developing rapidly and it will quickly become a staple technology within the connected home."

The first half-day Powerline training session will be held on November 12 at CEDIA HQ in St Neots. Installers can sign up on the Power Ethernet website. The company is also offering an evaluation pack, which includes two four-port powerline PE sockets and a support pack, for the reduced price of £99.More details can be found at www.powerethernet.com. We don't know where you can get that fantastic wallpaper though.
